Two PSJA ISD Mariachi Groups Earn a First Division at UIL State Contest
SEGUIN- Two Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD Mariachi Groups earn a 1st Division trophy at the 2026 University Interscholastic League (UIL) State Mariachi Contest, held February 19–21, 2026 at Seguin High School in Seguin, Texas.
This statewide competition featured 97 mariachi ensembles, with only 31 groups earning a 1st Division trophy— the highest rating awarded. Among those top-performing groups were two PSJA Mariachi Groups.

The UIL State Mariachi Contest showcases the very best high school mariachi ensembles in Texas. Groups are evaluated by expert adjudicators on musicianship, tone quality, balance, technique, and overall performance excellence.
“Our students represented us well with their Mariachi performances,” said PSJA Fine Arts Director Jon Taylor. “Receiving First Division ratings at the state level is an honor, and we’re grateful for the hard work and commitment our students and directors show in representing PSJA ISD and our community.”
These achievements reflect the dedication, talent, and countless hours of preparation by students and directors. Their success not only highlights their strength but also celebrates the rich cultural traditions that mariachi music represents in our community.
